simply black
not a new layout, only a new color scheme, and minor tweakings here and there.

i've been meaning to change the background and some bits since forever, but i never got around to it because i'm a lazy bum. but after being inspired by a friend using blackle, a google search engine which functions with a black background, i couldn't wait to change the colors in this blog.

why?

because sites with black backgrounds use less energy than those bright/white backgrounds.
“An all white web page uses about 74 watts to display, while an all black page uses only 59 watts.”
check out this article here from treehuggers.com too while you're at it =)

update : here's another black-colored google, but with slightly lighter font color for easier reading that's better for the eyes : blaxel! this was suggested by joana. =D

right. and other than that, it's also because i don't quite like staring at white backgrounds in the first place, to be honest. it straings my eyes >_o and black's a pretty cool color too, so why the heck not, yeah? ;P

and so, after having my weekly springcleaning, concocting a sad attempt at pseudo-chicken rice, completing the 6 interviews, losing an auction bid, being picked on by carlo for being female, being amazed by celine's puzzle-solving prowess, laughing at peachy's cute sounds, and being amused at croix's repetition of 'intense' as a reply for many sentences, and (finally) changing the lay a bit, i'm satisfied.

i shall sleep now. @_@

went up to mount vic!
so che nazira was invited by the dude who sits next to her in ENGL114 (and also her tutorial-mate), mark, to walk up mount vic. she invited me and my 3 friends (jo, iqa, shufaiha), so all of us walked all the way up the mountain.

(continue with dark blue writing for rants if interested, i don't want to be negative in this section =B)

anyhoo, the view on the mountaintop was immensely breathtaking. you can see the whole of the city and the coastline and it was mindblowing how much you can see, there's no perfect word to describe it. i'm posting here are the the photos of us on the way up there as well as after we went down the mountain top. here are some teasers ;P

mountvic & kaffee ais mountvic & kaffee ais mountvic & kaffee ais
mountvic & kaffee ais mountvic & kaffee ais mountvic & kaffee ais mountvic & kaffee ais

after that, we headed to kaffee ais to get icecreams (2 huge scoops for myself, while the rest got one ;P) and we chatted and watched mark bully che. heheh, funny duo, really. ^_^

ah, today was a really awesome and contemplative day. check out the photos here for visual aid aight? =D

oh, another thing i learned quite recently, but will not elaborate on, is that:
no matter what people say, there is ALWAYS something wrong, and right, about anyone.
because being human means they are perfectly imperfect, and perhaps imperfectly perfect.
i wish people would just accept that.

aih, i think my brain+body has worked overload today, so i shall stop now.

cheers, if possible.

---

(continued rants)

it was pretty steep, which i'm not surprised at all, but while the others went up and me staggering behind because i was practically breathless, i can't help but feel an immense hating towards myself.

you see, i actually like sports. despite what i've been telling almost everyone in my life, "i hate sports", i actually like running, swimming, jungle-trekking, extreme sports. i like being able to be physically active. but all these years, i told ppl i can't do them because i have asthma. that has always been my excuse. but altho it IS a valid reason, and i really cannot do sports because i'll easily get breathless, it's more of a feeling of hatred and disappointment in myself that causes me to run away from sports entirely.

it's hard to see other ppl play around and run and whatever while still laughing and smiling despite panting after after playing sports. as for myself, everytime i try to play them, i feel like i'm sucking air from a plastic bag to the point where i wish i would just die and get it over with. it's like with every breath i take, only 12.71367% of the oxygen i breathe in actually gets into my lungs. and so i pant more, harder. and then my lungs hurt. and my body gets tired. and in the end, sports, which was meant to make you happy, makes me feel disgusted with myself.

it's really painful, as well, to want to be a part of a group activity like a trekking team in a competition or whatever, and you lose because you cannot keep up. because i never can. and it hurts even more when people say "it's ok, it's not your fault" because it IS my fault if we lost.

i think it is incredibly amazing how ungrateful i can be, i know. although i have the complete set of limbs for my body and i am mentally sane etc etc, my shortcomings always gets the best of me. but i can't help it. there's so many things that i wish i could do, but can't, because either my social environment doesn't allow me, or my own body punishes me.

the arts and sports are really fantastic things and i highly respect people who are good at them, but i feel utterly disappointed that i cannot pursue them. i just don't have the heart and/or lungs to do them because once doused with water from many directions, even big flames will eventually die.

but no matter how much i complain, question, cry over, trash about, etc... some things are just not meant to be, i guess.

back from bandung!
back from bandung!

what i thought was a trip from 2nd of january to 6th was actually 2th to 5th (realised this thru mom's friend who is the 'head' of the tour --- ma herself didn't realise this 0_o). so technically i came home a day earlier than i imagined (poo) and it made us speed up on a lot of activities, which isn't exactly fun.

BUT! time span aside, i enjoyed the trip there. will attach piccies as soon as i am able to actually do more than 1 task or open more than 1 program on my computer without it overheating (it tends to do that now *shakes fist angrily*)

day 1

arrived at the lcct airport via the airasia bus service from kl sentral. first time riding on the bus, about an hour. when we arrived, we were introduced to my mom's friend (aunty siti saodah)'s sister aunty chu; friend aunty umaiyyah, her 3 sons (aiman, ilhami and suffian); and kak ani (the boys' nanny).

so nothing else to highlight about the journey to indonesia except for 1 funny (but annoying) thing. there was this guy (meh, probably 40+ la) sitting in front of me was constantly moving or talking or adjusting his seat to talk to his friend who sat next to me (thus he has to twist around, much to my annoyance). it's as if the cabin crew released red ants from under his chair or something. anyhow, after an hour, it became colder, so i decided to wrap myself with my jacket, and the hoodie i used to cover the lower half of my face while i tried to sleep. when i was just about to doze off, i saw a cute guy walking to the back to get to the toilet. naturally (heheh) i became wide awake (heheheh). so before i could sleep again, the guy in front turned to look at me, amusedly, and started snickering. i mean, really, audibly, snickering, at ME! not kidding!

i was thinking, "apa hal lak orang tua ni?" (what's wrong with this old guy?) but i shrugged it off and slept anyway.

after i woke up, i told my mom about TSG so mom told me how before that, the 1st time i dozed off (the above event was the 2nd time), i, who was sitting at the seat furthest from the window, brilliantly slept with my jaw hanging open. and several people/crew actually saw me while they were walking to and fro from their seats to the toilet/back. brilliant. i became a public display of amusement/humiliation for a good 20 minutes and all ma & sis did was laugh at me and 'waited' for me to wake up. now i understood why the guy in front of me was snickering. he probably thought "it's about time she realised how ugly she looks when she slept".

anyhow, i saw two eyecandies on the flight. woohoo! ;)

after we arrived at bandung, the first indonesian guy i met eye to eye with (he was giving away hotel fliers =P) was daaaamn cute. inwardly i prayed that all indonesian guys were as good-looking as him XD

when we got our luggages, we got on ride which came about 20 minutes later. the 'tour' van was driven by the super-nice & reliable pak yono (who, amusedly, was called by all the aunties and my mom with all sorts of names except his real one : pak joko, pak sono, pak soyo, pak noyo, etc etc -_-;;;).

first off, we stopped at a factory outlet very near to the airport. bought some clothes for the family there, and went to get food at restoran sederhana. all i can say is, GOOD MINANG FOOD! =D and the toilet--- very clean and homier than my home's 0_o

then we went to a few shops, including a batik one. there was a late 20's shop owner/admin there, smartly dressed and all, who was really good-looking. kinda big and chubby, quite fair and wore specs. hoho. he had a nice smile. i guess i can safely say that it was then that i realised that i would probably be gedik-ingly check guys out in bandung. heheheh

and let's just say i wasn't disappointed ;) i could spot a guy holding a guitar walking on the street or sitting at a roadside restaurant, or sitting in front of (presumably) his house, on numerous occasions each day. and guys wearing black tees and interesting hairstyles galore! mmhmm, good for eyecandies, definitely ;D

anyways, after going around town we stopped to have early dinner at about 6pm (already getting dark tho). we went to our hotel [name-of-hotel-here 0_o] and unpacked and so on and just spent the night lounging around. watched the telly with sis and was REALLY amused by the ads there. one that was particularly fun+funny was a mobile telecommunication service (much like digi and maxis) called 'ngorbit'. i thought the voice of the guy singing sounded funny, but after a few times of watching the ad aand listening to it, it just got stuck in my head. until now, even. heheheh.

OH and we (sis & i) also watched a show called 'jalan keadilan 3' featuring 3 dudes (one was cute and another one drop dead gorgeous) supposedly learning about the faith from a totally clueless+rebel's POV. one scene which i found hilarious : the 3 dudes 'ran away' from home and somehow were allowed to stay at the masjid while they sorted out their personal problems. as they got a room for themselves, they pasted posters of western rock bands on the wall (for those not in the know, putting posters/portraits of animate living things on display is prohibited in islam - what i was told, anyway). the assistant of the head of the masdjid commitee wanted to 'greet' the 3 guys, but upon stumbling upon the room full of posters, he pointed at them and said 'murtad' (apostasy), but the 'leader' of the guys laughed at him, "that's not 'murtad', that's metallica!" LOL.

=P

so that was day 1. will continue with my 'bandung adventures' later. if i'm rajin enough. ho ho ho ;)

and and i'm uber excited to do this --- things i love about bandung, and things i don't particularly love about it.

9 LOVES
  • houses+shops+buildings in all shapes and sizes and designs!!! <3
  • guys in black tees holding/playing guitars
  • indonesian accent
  • interesting tv shows+ads
  • cheap accessories (tho i hardly bought any =( )
  • cheap bags!!! (yes i am a bag person =T)
  • cheap clothes
  • traffic control volunteers (for real)
  • cool air (9am, 20ºc, seriously)
3 NOT-LOVES
  • too many ppl smoking. >_o even at markets and some stores. eck. ciggie ads are literally EVERYwhere.
  • 'celebrity treatment' from salespeople trying pushing to sell everything to tourists. it gets to you. seriously.
  • people honking on the streets. a lot.
ok, as you can see i could't find many things i didn't like about bandung, honestly. i really like the place! for shopaholics, it's a haven for clothes and bags. for ecotourists, DO DO DO visit the inactive volcano (forgot the name). will elab more on the other fun stuff in otehr entries. meanwhile, i have to get off for fear or my comp overheating and erasing everything i've just written.

warrrrrgh.

cant wait to get a new comp. sigh.

new phone and an environmental warning
New phone

So I gots myself a new cellie after the one I had was soaked in 100Plus a few months ago (long story), and the mom's old Nokia 3310 I used as a replacement is starting to show nonsensical symbols and half-displaying what it's supposed to. LoL.

SO I bought a Samsung SGHE210 from Jaya Jusco of Wangsa Maju, an impulsive buy, sort of. I researched some interesting models on the Net but they were well above my budget (mine was a max. of RM800 ;P It's got the stuff I needed+wanted, and looks sleek and it's black XD HEART!

e210

Downsides :
only 2 menu skins, white & black (though both are sleek and professional-looking); 1.3MP camera (no flash); small internal memory (17MB); USB not included (use memory card reader for microSD card); no infrared.

Upsides :
user-friendly; comfortable and cool-looking keypad; nice sound quality; music/caller/message display on clamshell screen; conversion program (lengths, weight, currency etc); up to 2GB expandable memory; pretty neat MP3/AAC/AAC+ player; FM radio; Bluetooth/WAP/GPRS supported; video recording (tho the quality is mediocre); camera with effects & frames.

I was more of a Nokia person but right now I'm loving Samsung more. =) Bought this at RM750 including 1GB microSD card, in any case. Yay I can finally contact people now, at the same time listen to music. XD

Environmental Warning

china-water-samples-001

Do you know what those colored waters are?

They're water collected all over the water bodies (ie. rivers and lakes) in China.

And yes, they are very much authentic colors. The vibrantness and vividness of some 'strange' colors like red and blue are due to coloring chemicals emitted from factories that use dyes.

And yet some people make fun of me when I express my concern towards the environment, saying I'm exaggerating. Heh. Ironic. ;P

SOS
bounced from zewt's blog to this ecological footprint quiz, here's what i got:

ecogreen

what is an ecological footprint?

"The Ecological Footprint measures the amount of natural resources an individual, a community, or a country consumes in a given year.

We use official statistics tracking consumption and translate that into the amount of biologically productive land and water area required to produce the resources consumed and assimilate the wastes (predominately carbon emissions) generated.

Because people use resources from all over the world, and affect faraway places with their pollution, the Footprint is the sum of these areas wherever they are on the planet."

redefining progress - faq

i don't drive nor do i travel much. i try to lessen my electricity & water usage whenever i can. and yet we still need 1 ½ earth to compensate for all the footprints i left if everyone were like me.

i feel bad. why can't i contribute more?!? i'm so disappointed with myself. =(

sigh.
